Week 2 - Corrupted Vision - Eoghan
For the theme "Corrupted Vision", I came up with the idea for a game that is filled to the brim with ads. Any time the player tries to do anything, the game has a chance to load an ad.
The game also features strange controls, using on screen arrow keys to move but using the space bar to jump.
My game is a puzzle platformer in which the player must get to the end with a limited number of jumps. If I were to expand it, I would add more levels, fix the controls and add enemies.
I decided to go with this idea because not only does it literally corrupt the player's vision by obscuring it, but it also is a slight exaggeration of tactics employed by certain mobile games that are oversaturated with ads, (e.g. a game with very short levels that has an unskippable 30 second ad after every single level)
I believe this corrupts what could have been a good game into a glorified get rich quick scheme. I do understand the need for ads in video games, as it is a source of income for many. This is mainly a criticism of the overabundance of ads in many low effort games.
